NFPA NEC Code 670.6

Lakeland Engineering Equipment Company is committed to keeping our customers up to date on the latest safety and compliance information. The NFPA 70, or National Electrical Code (NEC), implemented a new code that specifically affects the industrial industry. The NEC Code 670.6 states that, “industrial machinery with safety interlock circuits shall have surge protection installed.”

The new surge protection code requirements require all safety interlocks on industrial machinery to have surge protection installed. This enhances safety and reliability. Lakeland is providing information and product offerings to ensure our customers are in compliance with this code that is currently in effect.

Why was the Surge Protection Code Implemented?

NEC Code 670.6 was implemented to enhance safety for machine operators. When an electrical surge occurs, a safety interlock circuit can fail without warning to the machine operator. Without a safety interlock circuit, industrial operators are put at great risk.
